The film has several amazing sequences - notably the contract-tearing farrago between Groucho and Chico, and the crazy finale in which Harpo does a Tarzan act on the flyropes perfectly in time with Verdi's music.

The famous stateroom scene, in which the brothers and several passengers pack into one small ship's bedroom, became a classic as a result: apparently no one laughed until it had been embellished by the Brothers on stage with a series of ad-libs that were eventually added to the script. He insisted that they took the show out on the road as a stage attraction in order to hone it to perfection. "Don't worry about a thing", Thalberg said to Harpo, "You get me the laughs and I'll get you the story". As a reward, you will get your own featured segment on our podcast. But A Night at the Opera is marginally my choice, because it was the film that changed all that, as producer Irving Thalberg fulfilled his promise to make "a big-time act using small-time material" into big time all the way. So I have come here, to the trusty Steve Hoffman Forums, to see whether any of my fellow obsessives can identify this mystery woman. A couple of years ago I started co-hosting The Marx Brothers Council Podcast, and despite regular begging for help with this, I have nothing to show for it. Unfortunately, they have nothing for "Opera" and suggested I write to Turner Entertainment, who currently owns the film and production materials.I have yet to hear back from them. I recently wrote to the Motion Picture Academy Library, asking if they had anything in their MGM files.

It almost seems as if MGM has deliberately withheld her name, as cast lists with less prominent performers have been released. I've consulted with Marx experts such as Robert Bader and Joe Adamson, and they couldn't help. I've spent countless hours scouring and other sources, but to no avail. I later discovered she makes another fleeting appearance earlier in the film as the ship is departing, when Groucho rushes through the crowd to ask if he has time to pay his hotel bill. This was particularly frustrating as she has two lines in the scene, is prominently placed in the foreground of the action, and draws the attention of both Groucho and Chico.

except for the lovely manicurist who is being embraced by Groucho in the photo above. Between IMDB and a few other sources, I was quickly able to name them all.
